Today’s world is ego-led, there’s no doubt about it. Naturally, self-development is all about you, but think bigger picture. It’s not about how the world views you, but how you view yourself in this world. What is your real purpose? Do your relationships really serve you? Are you present enough in your daily life? Are you proud of the person you’ve become? All these questions relate to one thing – authenticity. Showing up as our real selves takes work (a lot of work!) but existing under a false pretence not only takes effort but robs us of inner peace, the most valuable commodity there is.
Don’t let the pressures of society force you to lose touch with yourself. Drop your ego and think about what success and happiness look like to you. To me, it’s less about about money & cars, and more about internal fulfilment & freedom.
Self-development and internal growth are essential tools for survival. If the past few years has taught us anything, it’s that our version of “normal” can be re-written in an instant. Despite ever-changing external circumstances, at the very least, we need to feel secure in, and sure of our ourselves.
Self-development incorporates everything from emotional intelligence and awareness, to creating and maintaining healthier habits to help us improve and adapt to new circumstances. It’s the process of (re)discovering and connecting with your truest self via a range of introspective practices that, when applied correctly, will change your life irrevocably. The beauty of self-development is that it’s all encompassing; when you decide to change one area of your life, you will see improvements across the board.
By the way, there’s no end to self-development, when you think you’ve cracked the code for life, curveballs will get thrown at you, making you realise just how much work is required. But the results, well, they’re immeasurable. Trust me, the decision to invest in, and develop yourself will be the best one you ever make.
